is it summer yet?!

It's this time of the year that brings out the best and worst of both students and teachers. I've noticed my classes thinning out as people do not complete the semester...for whatever reason...illness, family situations, economic necessity, laziness, etc. It's also the time when I see everyone stressed and giving all kinds of excuses for their inability to complete a project. "I wasn't able to work on my speech, I had to go to court;" "I've been overwhelmed by my Anatomy class and couldn't do my work for your class." But it's not always a bad time of the year.

A good case of senioritis can remind you of being younger and the anticipation of summer is a beautiful reminder of why we suffer year-round through the trials of education. It's also the time of year when I get to write letters of recommendation, nominate students for awards and scholarships, and I get to attend numerous ceremonies to cheer for them. It's a time of accomplishment and reflection. It feels like May and I like the way it feels.
